DESCRIPTION: France, 3 piece mantel garniture, dovetailed oak clock case with underpainted horn veneer, colored to appear as marble, with gilt mounts and moldings, and extensive use of brass line inlay, Roman numeral white enamel dial with open Brocot escapement, blued steel Breguet style hands, 8 days, time and strike, pendule a Paris movement, back with brass framed glazed door, the plinth form side pieces with finishes and ornament matching the clock case, and supporting covered, cast brass urns with foliate and Grecian style ornament, c1870
CONDITION: The horn veneer with shrinkage, cracking, and losses, top of clock now without veneer, drop at front of clock replaced, much of the brass inlay now missing, some applied ornament missing, dial with chips and hairlines, ticks and strikes, side pieces also with shrinkage and losses to veneer, although not as severe as the clock case, minor losses to applied ornament, urns good, one cover with minor bend, Ht 14 1/2" (clock), 19" (side pieces)
